Today’s Miracle Moment is About a 105-Year-Old Woman’s Secret to Happiness…
Recently, I attended a singing event with about 25 people, where we sang beautiful songs and chants together for about 2 hours. Throughout the event, I noticed a radiant woman in the back row – she had a huge smile on her face, and she was clapping and singing along the whole time. She stood out to me because she looked to be a little older than the rest of the people there. After we were done singing, I went to meet her and found out that her name was Natalie and she was about to have her 105th birthday.
She was the first 105-year-old I’d ever met, and she was full of energy, cracking jokes, and living in what we call the Miracle Zone!
We sat down to talk to her, and I asked her what her secret is to living to 105 with such zest and a big smile on her face?
Because it’s one thing to live to 105, but it’s another to be full of life, vitality, happiness and energy at that age.
Natalie said that her secret is keeping busy and helping people. She loves encouraging others, helping them believe in themselves, and doing that gives her an extra spark.
What I love about this is that when most of us think about being 105, we’re afraid we’ll need to rely on others.
Instead, Natalie keeps her focus on helping others, and that’s helped her to stay healthy and energized at her age.
I also got to talk with Ann, Natalie’s daughter, who said that one of her mom’s strengths is that she’s a “rascal” who has a lightness and sense of humor about life. And she definitely made me laugh during our short chat.
Natalie’s experience is backed up by research done by Dan Buettner, who discovered the Blue Zones – the places in the world where people live the longest, healthiest lives. Just the day after meeting Natalie, I had an interview already scheduled with Dan for Your Year of Miracles members.
Dan said: Having a sense of purpose and helping others can add 8 years to life. And that’s far more powerful than any pill or any supplement you can find.
So there you go – put your focus on how you can help others, and have a sense of humor about life.
This week, I invite you to look for ways to focus on helping or encouraging others. This doesn’t have to look like spending a whole day doing volunteer work, but it can. Simply have the intention to be an encouraging presence for others, and as you go through your day look for the opportunities to help others or show you care. And, when life feels too serious, practice having a sense of humor.
Leave us a comment about what Natalie’s story inspires in you! We look forward to hearing from you.

This is so inspiring and so true. I am in A.A. and our 12 step programme is seeped on helping others. One of our main quotes is
“Give it away in order to keep it “. That’s obviously what Natalie is doing. Keeping her enthusiasm and zest and happiness for life by freely giving it to others. A truly beautiful lady, in every sense of the word 🙏♥️
So true Paddy, I’m active in the AA Fellowship, 49 years sober a day at a time, at 79 years old I more alive now than I was in my twenties, having a Power in my life and helping others to become what they may.
Totally agree, Colly! Thank you for being a part of such a powerful community and encouraging others through your loving presence and sharing your experiences. Such a powerful intention helps others see a new perspective and opens them to new possibilities.

TO: Darlene Mcguire. I would like to hear more about your
Ageless Possibilities. Sounds intriguing. I too am in the 80zone and share active learning in social engagements with other women in the 75 – 90’s zone. Such a wealth of knowledge, life understanding, wisdom, and purpose to serve until, one day is, no more.
Darlene, may your heart be filled with JOY, your face radiant with a SMILE and your SOUL touch everyone in your presence.
Thank you
Carol Ann

Great comments from
everyone! It is amazing what the power of sharing and helping can do for everyone. During Covid and cancer treatments, I found by pivoting my fine art mentoring to my kitchen and zoom, I was able to reach people all over the country, many of whom shared it was their only connection to community during that time. What began as me trying to pivot my own studio practice during that stressful time turned into giving joy to more people than I ever imagined! In turn, it helped me take my mind off my health issues at the time, healing through happiness, sharing and art making. I now continue private mentoring through Zoom, something I had never imagined before 2020!
Nancy, that sounds wonderful! The power of helping others and healing together is exceptional. We’re glad you found a community to share what you love with.
Right! We loved sharing Natalie’s inspiring words of encouraging and helping other.
Much love!
I find that having purpose and meaning makes me want to jump out of bed and do what’s mine to do every day! Spending time with my grandchildren, writing, and sharing wisdom gleaned from experience is how I serve. And I can’t imagine stopping.
And absolutely, laughing with my girlfriends keeps it all in perspective.
That’s such an amazing way to show up for others, especially your grandchildren! Your loving presence and energy is going to encourage them to make valuable contributions too and open up new possibilities.
Much love!
My mom was a great encourager for me and others. I have taken her great quality and now encourage others too.
Working with a group of asylum seekers has given me a true sense of purpose. I know I am making a difference in their lives and they are certainly doing the same for me, filling me with their faith that all will be well. And oh how we can laugh together! They are a blessing.
What a beautiful way to share your love and presence! Love your perspective that they are a blessing in your life because it goes to show how we can all together open up to the possibilities.
Much love!
Your mom sounds amazing, Andrea! Love that she has encouraged you to make a positive contribution in other’s lives too. Keep going!
Much love!
