Today’s Miracle Moment Is About How Empaths Can Thrive Inside the Miracle Zone…
Did you know that being empathic is a superpower? “Empath” is derived from the Greek word “em,” meaning “in” and “patheos” meaning “feeling.” Being an empath means that you’re able to “feel into” so much of life–even into what other people are experiencing.
However, it sometimes doesn’t feel like a superpower. When you can easily pick up on the energies of other people and the external environment around you, it can be overwhelming and draining. Being so tuned into the outside world can often take us away from our internal sense of peace and wellbeing. This can make all of the events happening in our world today even more intense, because you’re feeling the effects of them so deeply.
If you can relate to being an empath or highly sensitive person, we want you to know that you’re not alone. We’re right there with you, and we have so many empaths in Your Year of Miracles community.
To thrive in the Miracle Zone as an empath or highly sensitive person, first embrace your gifts.
Your gifts include creativity, feeling connected to nature, and the capacity to love very deeply. You have the ability to sense and feel what’s going on in your life and be guided by your intuition. Empaths are often working on the frontlines of helping professions and want to make the world a better place–and this is an amazing gift for the world!
There are truly beautiful possibilities that are available to you through your empathic gifts. So how can you support yourself so that you aren’t consumed by the challenges of feeling everything?
It’s important to understand that our bodies are built for sensing and perceiving. In fact, our nervous systems are 100 to 10,000 times more sensory than they are motor. The problem is, if we live in our heads and we don’t come down into our bodies, that sensory input is too overwhelming.
To come into our bodies, we can go back to the breath.
Here’s an exercise to support you as an empath to thrive inside the Miracle Zone:
- The moment that you start to feel oversensitive, overwhelmed, or overstimulated, take a deep breath into your belly and exhale into the earth. Drop your breath through the tip of your spine and let it land two feet below you.
- Then, take another deep breath into your belly and exhale into the earth.
- Practice dropping and anchoring into the earth and doing “mula bandha,” which is contracting the muscles in your pelvic bowl and squeezing them as if you were going to the bathroom and you had to stop that stream. Keep them squeezed, breathe into your belly, and exhale down into the earth.
- Then inhale up from the earth into your belly and exhale right back down into the earth again.
- As you do this, bring your focus of attention onto yourself, rather than on the external environment. This is called “coming off of object and onto subject.”
- Next, you can experiment a little. Put your attention on something somewhere else in the room and see how your energy rushes over there to it. You can then call your energy back to you. Imagine breathing in all of those energies and exhaling them into the earth.
By grounding your energy through this breathing practice, you can overcome your overwhelm.
As you practice this, you will feel like an entirely different person in the face of whatever is going on.
The beauty of this practice is that as you stabilize yourself, you can then have a stabilizing presence for those around you too. This will help you to stay in your own energetic space while still being open to what’s going on in the world from a place of groundedness and centeredness.
Most importantly, rather than being hindered by your empathic sensitive tendencies, your life experience will be enhanced by them.
“Everything that human beings feel, we feel. We can become extremely wise and sensitive to all of humanity and the whole universe simply by knowing ourselves, just as we are.” ~Pema Chodron
Very beautiful tool to keep in mind and practice.
Thanks for sharing.

I’m grateful to see or wake up to another day.
I am an empath. My neighbors from 26 years moved to another state today. I felt so badly to be loosing them as neighbors ——-that they left me a beautiful chair from their living room. Yes, I am living in the Miracle Zone.
Thank You.
I just last week took on a caregiving job for a friend that is going on vacation.
I worked; 4hrs and needed 24hrs recovery time.
I am a very healthy elder,
I love the lady I cared for already, and …
As I overheard the lady I filled in for making some comments, it once again brought up my childhood
being made fun off as the
„Princess of the pea“@
I know I have been super -empathetic all my life and it has indeed caused me an awful lot of pain … Dr Sues work has been the only thing that has allowed me to even consider peeping out from under this giant shell I built around myself…. I am eternally grateful 🥰🙏
Thank you Marcie & Dr. Sue! Such a quick practice to use immediately and shift energy to a more grounded place.
Love it.
Thank you
Mmm, empath since child, closed down at 18. Past few years at 44 theses abilities are wide open again. I feel the pain of the earth, the animals and people….need to transmute theses energies into positive and not take on the pain🙏💖🙏 love being empath though-can feel everyone energy-emotions, compliments my healing and yogic path. Love you Dr sue and Marci☀️🌈🪶
Its very draining having my own emotions and being hit with someone else’s. Im grateful that i have greater insight but at the same time hard to release all the extra energy.
Thank you both for your insightful talk.
I am grateful I was born an empath… I’ve been told it’s is my ‘Gift’ and the reason along with creativity and hard work, that my life is a success story.
Amazing conscious of the timely response and resolution considering I kindly request to get on successful enrollment
This is perfect timing. Thank you so much. My mother is passing any time now and the overwhelm has been building for me. I will keep this wonderful advice close during the next few days. It makes sense that everyone is looking to me to carry us through. I know this will help. xx
Sending love to everyone.
Thank you Marci and Dr. Sue, I am only covering that I am an empath and how to embrace this super power, after multiple burnouts in my life. This breathing practice is exactly what I needed to add to my daily routine and in moments of energetic overwhelm in my home. So happy to be part of the supportive community.
With gratitude and blessings, Judy
After using these exercises I felt so light . Didn’t feel like the whole world was on my shoulder’s . Thank you xxx
Thank you! Perfect timing for this. I’ve discovered that my purpose in life is to help others as a Life Coach and Fitness Instructor. This tool will come so in handy to keep me grounded since I am very much an empath and do tend to get overwhelmed. I think this is keeping me from really allowing my Life Coach business to thrive. Thank you again!
I have become extremely aware of my empathetic gifts within the last year. Within the past month, It feels like a train is passing under my feet and sometimes that rumbling has last an enter day. It’s quite interesting and I wonder what I’m supposed to do with this type of intense energy. How can I use it to be if serve?
Beautiful centering exercise. I believe my empathic powers are my superpowers. I am able to tune in to my clients and understand what they are experiencing because of my heightened sensitivity.
I can also feel their feelings in my body and help them to identify them often before they do. I love my sensitivity! Thank you so much for guiding us on how to energetically protect ourselves from overwhelm
Thank you for this. It’s like coming home listening to you both.
I feel lucky to have a deep knowing about the world. To understand Animal/bird behaviour deeply and enjoy nature.
Thank you for the tips, it helps me make since of energy flying in to my solar plexus , as if it is confirming what the other person is feeling. At times I “fall out” into a lovely place of quiet feeling like Spirit is near or present. Not sure what it means, just feel love. But it’s all good.
I find it humbling being an empath. Others often sense it and pick you out from the crowd, without really knowing why. I have had some amazing experiences wIth strangers in the street, cafes etc. It’s great to be able to honour our gifts as empaths and to have a simple exercise to help keep us centred. Thank you, this was both uplifting and inspiring.
💕
My stomach always squeezes in to my backbone and my belly extends when I exhale. This is a challenging switch for me. Then when I lift the pelvic floor, am I to hold that through the
inhale and exhale before releasing? I am confused on how long to hold & when to drop the squeeze in the breathing sequence. Are the instructions for this technique in written form somewhere? Thanks, K
Thank you!
Same question as above.
The good part? It allows being really close to people.
I have had the experience of empathy that hit me like a 2 X 4 and did not release me until the experience was over and no longer needed my attention. Not being in that environment any longer, has released that type of experience although, it has occurred in a different form more recently.
My gifts were buried until I met the love of my life! We shared even physical symptoms that is how in tune we were with each other. It was an amazing experience. Unfortunately I think he got scared off and fears probably made him run.😔I pray for reconciliation because I think we had an amazing connection that didn’t reach its potential. I am trying to also navigate my way to finding meaningful work that pays well. I know I have a connection with animals as well. I look forward to more of your work.🌺
I have found my ability to accurately sense unspoken emotions over the phone to be useful, sometimes.
Up till now, my way of dealing with overload was to just push it away, shut down a little. This grounding is much better!
All my life I’ve been able to sence when someone is hurting, had dreams letting me know a few times. Also before something happens to someone.

Yes! Grounding has tremendously improved how I interact with life. Both me mother and sister very empathetic. Whenever i feel stressed I close my eyes and do my breath, an perks me right up. I’ve overcome alot since started program! I am radiantly healthy I put on some good weight started my new job today an been living new place with new roommate! feeling peaceful freedom in my heart very grateful
Central Channel breathing and squeezing the anchor points has helped me to stay anchored and in my body. Especially at this time of 2 family members starting their new lives. My sister after losing her home in a fire and relocated to live with me, and my granddaughter staying with me in between college semesters. I thank God every day for this gift of anchoring myself.
I love this breathing exercise. I do it throughout the day now. Whenever I feel stressed at work and that I might take it out on the children I teach, I remind myself to breathe into my belly. It definitely works. Taught it to my partner, too, who is definitely an empath. He tends to take everyone’s problems personally and as a result can get overwhelmed. He’s more calm and sleeps better, too.
I guess that I’ve not thought of myself as an empath, but being raised by a violent alcoholic definitely meant trying really hard to anticipate.
Nice to have your support as an empathy, thank you very much.
My Mom has been going through a cancer diagnosis and I have shared the breathing techniques with her, something she was not open too in the past. She has experienced how this assists her in calming herself. She is now trying to get my brother to do it as well. While assisting Mom during this time the breath work allows me to begin my day on the right foot. When feeling overwhelmed I find time to remove myself, breath, do the Mulabonda and come back to center. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!
This is so timely. I have been so overwhelmed by all that keeps coming to me. I try to keep responding but with the death of my partner last year, I can space out and make mistakes.
Last week I had a miraculous escape. Without realising I pulled out into an intersection
into the path of a truck. The poor man driving managed to stop in time about 3ft from the side of my car. I went on to a support group in shock and did not even speak of it for a day.
Now I will practise grounding so I can be aware and present. I didn’t even realise I was not present. This also leaves me feeling lonely.
Thank you. I love to Breathe Consciously whenever I feel stressed. I am grateful the Earth is my Home for this Incarnation.
Simple and easy…. Love it!!! thanks
I have always been an Empath. It can be exhausting to feel others energies especially negative when you are working on positives for yourself. I have to try to walk away from certain people or conversations just to keep myself in a good zone. I learn from it everyday!
I had a tough childhood which I think made me become an empath for self-survival! Now I’m in a healthy, loving relationship and still pick up on my family’s feelings, but even more so, I so FEEL my dog’s anxiety about storms and fireworks, and my plants “TELL” me when they need water, sun, or Reiki now! The feelings I get tune me in to helping whomever or whatever needs help that I can provide, and that is very rewarding to me.
I am in mental/emotional/physical recovery. Guiding my emotions away from my skin. Working on feeling my emotions in my heart to heal and re-align after many years of soul following brain I am now in my second year of brain following my soul. Joyful Singing , dancing, painting, gardening, dog walking…
Extraordinary beautiful courses have been available at the right time for me and I feel truly blessed. I am in a beautiful good place with beautiful souls and I am SO GRATEFUL. Wholistic living and healing in nature, peace and harmony has always been my calling and I LOVE you and FEEL you all. THANK YOU for SHARING your stories and these lifesaving tools.
The grounding my energy through the breathing practice is just what I needed.
At the moment I feel quite overwhelmed and I will use it.
Thank you and I love both of you Marci and Dr. Sue.
Yes , I like to learn more about your program or group… Thanks
Bernadette
Great explanation here, it cleared up confusion …hoping to discover more gifts
